Dr Abbed is superior. Attentive to my medical history and tests. Communicates In a friendly accurate manner. Welcomes questions from patient He outlined surgical process, possible outcomes, and gave honest, practical advice for me to continue without immediate surgery. He offered to help if I need to reach out. Dr. Abbed is highly respected and trustworthy. Required 6 wks of PT and MRI prior to consult. His practice maintains a local PA for initial visit. Superior system and care. Exceptional surgeon.

Dr. Abbed is absolutely extraordinary! I am so glad I found him and can't imagine entrusting my spinal surgery to any one else! I have recommended him to others without reservation. I haven't had any compressed nerve pain since surgery which has given me a pain-free quality of life I cannot thank him enough for.

I had heard so many good things about Dr. Abbed and boy did he not disappoint. He the care he showed, taking the time to listen (which most doctors don't do anymore) and explaining exactly what was wrong and all the options at my disposal was great. Although I hope I don't have to see him because that means something is wrong, I'm really glad to know he is there if needed.

Heidi the P.A. Came In first. She was excellent. Explained the day to me. Dr. Abbed is like a G-d to me. This is my third back Surgery by him! I feel absolutely fantastic!! His good nature and calmness goes a long way. He answered each of my questions and explained again what procedures he did and why. He always looks me in the eyes and never do I feel rushed.!!

Dr. Abbed went over my concerns about options for my neck and back and that he needed to have a Cat Scan of my neck to review and the MRI of my cervical spine results. In addition, he requested notes from previous visits to another surgeon and physical therapist for review.

I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to utilize Dr Abbed for two seperate surgeries and he saved my life on both. Dr Abbed has gone above and beyond as my surgeon and as a person who truely cares for his patients. As far as I am concerned he is truely one of the best back surgeons around. He treats the patient as if it was his own family. Dr Abbed is an extremely talented Dr who puts his heart and soul into achieving the best results for his patients. Hartford Health Care is very fortunate to have him at their hospital. As I got to know him over the years I could not help but notice how respected and loved he is by the staff who work around him. He creates a team atmosphere where everyone is equally important. It’s obvious to me how much he loves what he does. Furthermore it’s very difficult for me to trust anyone until I get to know them through my interactions, research ect. Dr Abbed exceeds my expectations as a Dr and teacher of medicine. As a patient he took the time I needed to explain in a way to make sure I understood everything I was about to go through and was very honest. I only wish we had more Drs in world like him. My only regret was not writing this refferal sooner since I’m a little challenged with computers and google end of things and own an Apple.

Dr. Abbed was pleasant, knowledgeable, took plenty of time explaining my condition and why surgery is not the answer. My wife and I like him very much. He looks much younger in person and he has an infectious smile. Very good experience on our first meeting with him. Based on everything we know and the number of doctors I have seen I would not hesitate for Dr Abbed to operate on me.

Best neurosurgeon in the state. He operated on a family friend of mine who was in SO much pain in her neck and arms and she is doing amazing. He is kind, calm and professional. I would ONLY see or recommend Dr. Abbed for spine surgery. Do your research!

Dr Abbed and his staff are not only caring but also attentive about patients' needs and concerns. I had major back surgery 6 months ago..this was not without receiving a thorough understanding of the procedure. Dr Abbed is an excellent surgeon and I felt I was in extremely capable hands.

Bio

Khalid M. Abbed, MD, a neurosurgeon and spine care specialist, is co-physician-in-chief of the Hartford

HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute, head of neurosurgical services, chair of neurosurgery and co-chair of spine services at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He is also director of the world-class Spine Center in Westport.

Skilled in the minimally-invasive treatment of spine ailments, he works with healthcare leaders and medical device companies to improve patient care and develop less invasive, more intelligent medical technologies.

Dr. Abbed came to Hartford HealthCare from the Yale School of Medicine where he was a professor of neurosurgery, chief of spine surgery and clinical vice chair of neurosurgery.

He earned a medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a fellowship in neurosurgical and orthopedic spine surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

Board-certified in neurosurgery, he is active in many neurosurgical and spine societies and has interests in a wide range of clinical and transnational research.
