5 Natural Ways to Address Low Libido
February 18, 2025
If your sex drive isn’t what it used to be, you’re not alone. A whole slew of factors, including stress, lifestyle choices, and even the food you eat all play a role.
But there are some natural ways for you to boost your libido — no prescription required.
We asked Sanne Wortel, PhD, clinical health psychologist with Hartford HealthCare’s Institute of Living, to share some expert-backed strategies for improving your sex drive.
1. Ease your responsibilities.
When your to-do list is never-ending, it can be hard to switch gears and feel present with your partner. Everyday chores like laundry or dishes may seem minor, but can add up, leaving limited time for intimacy.
“Asking for help can lighten your load and free up time for you both to unwind,” says Dr. Wortel. Less stress means more energy for intimacy and feeling close.

2. Take care of your body.
Your physical health and libido are closely linked. When you’re healthy, your mood and energy improve, along with your sex drive.
“Getting enough sleep, eating well and staying active can boost your mood and energy, which can help you feel more interested in sex,” explains Dr. Wortel.
When you feel good physically, it’s easier to feel good in your relationships.

3. Wear something that makes you feel attractive.
Confidence is key when it comes to desire. When you feel good about yourself, you’ll feel more comfortable and open to intimacy.
“Feeling attractive helps you reconnect with your body,” adds Dr. Wortel.

4. Spend time alone.
In a world full of distractions, it’s easy to forget to take time for ourselves. Even a few minutes each day to recharge can improve your well-being and sexual desire.
“Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk, unplugging from screens or just enjoying some quiet time, ‘me time’ can help you feel more relaxed and recharged,” says Dr. Wortel.
When you feel less stressed and more connected to yourself, it can be easier to feel connected to your partner.
5. Increase intimacy.
Sexual desire isn’t just about the physical act — it’s about emotional connection too.
“Simple touches like kissing, hugging or holding hands can help build closeness and increase desire,” explains Dr. Wortel.
When you focus on physical closeness, it can reignite feelings of attraction.
By making these small changes, you can naturally boost your libido and feel more connected to yourself and your partner — naturally and with no pressure.
