The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Hartford Hospital Earns Prestigious, National Certification
October 27, 2023
The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular Institute at Hartford Hospital has once again earned the Joint Commission’s Comprehensive Cardiac Center (CCC) Certification. The hospital originally became the first cardiac program in New England and one of only 14 nationally to be awarded with this designation.
Offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association, achieving Comprehensive Cardiac Center Certification is the premier cardiovascular certification awarded to hospitals that demonstrate high-quality care using evidence-based treatment.
“This prestigious designation is possible through the talent, dedication and expertise of our entire team and the high level of exemplary care they provide our patients every single day,” said Joseph Radojevic, MD, chief of cardiology at Hartford Hospital. “Our communities should have tremendous pride in knowing that we have one of the top cardiac centers in the nation right here in our state.”
In order to earn CCC certification, Hartford Hospital had to demonstrate excellence in treating every type of heart issue at any point in the disease process – from prevention through diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The program was required to exceed quality measurements in the following areas:
- Cardiac rehabilitation
- Heart failure
- Cardiac arrest
- Coronary artery bypass
- Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
- Valve replacement
- Percutaneous coronary intervention
- ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)
- Arrhythmia management
- Acute myocardial infarction
To earn the distinction, Hartford Hospital underwent an unannounced, thorough on-site review of the quality and safety of care being provided and is committed to continuously meeting rigorous national standards. The conclusion of the on-site survey is a validation of the work to continuously comply with The Joint Commission’s nationally developed standards.
