ZERO Prostate Run/Walk in Hartford Raises $110,000

More than 550 participants raised more than $110,000 for prostate research and education as part of the 2019 ZERO Prostate Cancer Run/Walk activities on June 30 in Hartford.

The Hartford HealthCare Tallwood Urology & Kidney Institute partnered with ZERO Prostate on the event, which included a 5K run/walk, kids’ Superhero Dash for Dad and virtual Snooze for Dudes program.

As part of the opening ceremonies, prostate cancer survivors and healthcare workers who work with prostate cancer patients were recognized.

“The monies raised at this event will go to support prostate cancer research nationally and right here in Connecticut, and also supports our community education programs that teach the public and patients about prostate cancer,” said Dr. Steven Shichman, physician-in-chief of Tallwood Urology & Kidney Institute.

Zero Prostate proceeds also fund free prostate screening tests, which Dr. Shichman said are the best way to diagnose the disease early, when it’s easier to treat.
