What is Pulmonary Sarcoidosis?

Sarcoidosis is a multi-organ disease that can result in inflammation and scarring of the lung. It can affect almost every part of the body and can be difficult to diagnose. Patients experiencing pulmonary sarcoidosis notice significant impacts on their quality of life with the most common symptoms being:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Dry cough
  • Fatigue
  • Limitations in exercise capacity

Evaluation

The team will perform a comprehensive assessment including a medical history and exam. They will conduct several tests to diagnose sarcoidosis which can include:

  • Pulmonary function testing
  • 6-minute walk test
  • Chest x-ray
  • High-resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) scan
  • Bronchoscopy

Treatment 

Therapy for sarcoidosis is aimed at reversing inflammation and preserving lung function. Our program offers all available therapies for sarcoidosis which include:

  • Referral for lung transplant evaluation
