In 1985, we were the first private provider in the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Southwest Region to build and open a fully accessible home for individuals with multiple physical disabilities.
Today, we operate seven fully accessible group homes in six communities: Bridgeport, Monroe, Shelton, Stratford, Newtown and Trumbull. The single-level, attractively landscaped houses are located in residential neighborhoods convenient to stores, banks, libraries, post offices and other community resources.
Each house is home to six residents. For some of the residents, these homes represent their first opportunity to live outside of their parents care or an institutional setting. The six residents of each home share a distinctive profile, physically dependent/high cognitive function, medically fragile elderly, visually impaired, medically complex, etc. for which individualized, specialized care provides a nurturing and safe living environment.
Residents have Direct Care Counselors available to them on site 24 hours of the day to provide them whatever level of assistance they may need in personal care or home management, with informed choice central in all planning and decision-making by individuals or the group as a whole.
As a private provider of residential services for DDS, SVSNS’ group homes are licensed by DDS and proudly hold the distinction of consistently attaining maximum licensure and accreditation status.
