Drawing on fellowship training in sports neurology, Dr. Stephanie Alessi-LaRosa, MD, MPH, collaborates with a team of compassionate, highly skilled specialists to diagnose and treat athletes with neurologic injuries or conditions.
Some of the experts you may encounter:
- Sports neurologist – A neurologist with advanced training in working with athletes and diagnosing and managing neurologic injuries sustained during play, or conditions such as migraine or epilepsy that could impact the ability to play safely. This expert can work with patient athletes to develop return-to-play strategies, optimize performance and avoid or reduce injuries.
- Neuropsychologist – A doctor trained to assess and treat patients having trouble with memory, concentration, language, learning and understanding.
- Sports Medicine physician – An expert in helping athletes prepare to return to play, supervising rehabilitation and treatment plans.
- Physical therapist – Those trained to help injured or sick individuals improve their ability to move and manage pain.
- Athletic trainers – Certified healthcare professionals who collaborate with a physician to help diagnose, treat and rehabilitate injured athletes.
In addition, being part of the Ayer Neuroscience Institute gives Sports Neurology Program patients access to a broad range of specialists in the brain and nervous system. Our team participates in various clinical councils that meet regularly to help determine effective, compassionate care for our patients.
