Hartford HealthCare Hosts Second Annual Opioid Symposium

The Hartford HealthCare Opioid Stewardship Council is hosting its second annual symposium titled, “Managing Pain, Opioids, and Addiction: A Shared Responsibility” on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 8 am to 1 pm at the Hartford Hospital Education and Resource Center Heublein Hall.
The event includes presentations by physicians, pharmacists and physical therapists on various aspects of opioid use and pain management, including:
- Update from the CT Department of Consumer Protection and a discussion of state guidelines for prescribing medical marijuana – Rodrick Marriott, PharmD, director of State of Connecticut Drug Control Division
- Review of CDC Guidelines: Have We Misinterpreted Them? – Ricardo Taboada, MD
- Opioid and Non-opioid Management of Pain – Richard Gannon, PharmD
- Tapering after Acute Opioid Use and Chronic Opioid Use – Michael Grille, MD
- Screening and Diagnosis of Opioid Use Disorder: Perspective of a Person in Recovery – Craig Allen, MD, FASAM, and Tara, a person in recovery
- Urine Drug Screen Testing – Jack Kain, PharmD, Quest Diagnostics’ Prescription Drug Monitoring & Toxicology
- Courageous Conversations in Pain Management – Daniel Jones, PhD
- Options for Non-Pharmacological Chronic Pain Management – Jonathan Sylvain, PT, Spine Clinical Rehab Manager at Hartford HealthCare
