Amanda Richards Named Hartford HealthCare’s First Chief Nursing Officer
January 26, 2021
Amanda (Mandy) Richards has joined Hartford HealthCare as the first Executive Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. Mandy began her new role Jan. 4.
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) role is complex and demanding. It requires, among other attributes, contemporary clinical knowledge and deeply ingrained leadership skills. It also requires a commitment to explore, expand and engage others in best practices. Mandy’s training, background and expertise meet those demands — and more.
She is a high-performing nursing leader who has been repeatedly recognized for leveraging clinical and business skills to consistently deliver results in a fast-paced, matrixed environment like ours. Her background includes 15 years of management experience over multiple inpatient and outpatient clinical areas, including six years’ experience as a CNO.
Mandy comes to Hartford HealthCare following 15 years at Allina Health, a not-for-profit system with 12 hospitals, more than 90 clinics and 15 pharmacy sites in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Most recently, she served as the Allina system’s system CNO, where she was accountable for the performance of more than 8,000 Registered Nurses and allied health professionals.
Previously, she served at Allina’s flagship, Abbott Northwestern, a 627-bed teaching and specialty hospital in Minneapolis.
At Abbott, she had also served as Vice President of Clinical Operations, after four years as Vice President of Patient Care at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Mandy also has had experience as a clinical leader for robust service lines, including neuroscience and spine, intensive and critical care, and respiratory care.
She received her training in Australia, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Deakin University in Melbourne, and her master’s of science in nursing at the University of Technology in Sydney. She holds certifications and licenses as a registered nurse, clinical nurse specialist, certified neuroscience registered nurse and is board-certified as a nurse executive-advanced.
Mandy is an empathetic leader — a professional of high integrity whose leadership style is in complete alignment with Hartford HealthCare’s values and behaviors, especially during the challenging times of this global pandemic.
This position is Hartford HealthCare’s commitment to harness the passion and power of the nurse’s role — a priority.
