7 Week Bereavement Support Workshop Starts May 12
May 04, 2021
It’s an overwhelming sense of grief and heartache that can affect your entire life, but seeking help for bereavement after the loss of someone you love can help you carry on.
The Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, with the Wolfson Palliative Care Program, is offering a free seven-week program providing professional and peer support for those grieving a loss. The Bereavement Support Workshop runs weekly on Wednesdays starting May 12, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., or 5:30 to 7 p.m., via Zoom.
“Grief is a process that is unique to each of us. Everyone experiences different levels of grief and progresses through it at different paces. We simply want to offer a combination of psycho-education, professional guidance and the support of others in the same situation as a way equip anyone who is grieving with the skills and tools that will help them get through,” said Caitlin McPhelimy, a clinician with the Cancer Institute’s Quality of Life Program.
The groups will be facilitated by Nadine Toce from the palliative care program at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. Toce, who has an extensive background in bereavement counseling, has run many similar workshops in-person before the pandemic.
Group size is limited, so registration is required by clicking here or calling 855.HHC.HERE (1.855.442.4373). Log-in information will be sent after registration. For more information on the sessions, call Toce at 860.224.5463.
