With the Colder Months Approaching, These 5 Tips Can Keep Seniors Safe
August 30, 2022
As the dog days of summer come to a close, our thoughts may turn to fall favorites – apple picking, harvest fairs and festivals, maybe breaking out that warm sweater to go out for a walk. The change of seasons is also a great time to start preparing to stay safe and healthy during the colder months.

A few steps you can take this fall to start prepping for the winter include:
- Get your flu shot.
- Change batteries in smoke detectors.
- Test out winter equipment such as generators or snow blowers to make sure it’s ready when needed.
- Bring in outdoor furniture and check for drafts in your home.
- Check the tires and fluid levels in your vehicle, so it’s in tip-top shape.
A little planning can keep you one step ahead as the colder months arrive.
It’s important to note that many of these tasks can be physically taxing, so don’t hesitate to reach out to a friend, family member or professional for assistance.
