BHN Leaders Highlighted at AACAP in Toronto

Addressing substance abuse and the impacts of TikTok and social media on youth are not just critical issues facing America but worldwide. That’s why a team of colleagues from the BHN led several important presentations on these and other topics at the recent American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Conference in Toronto.

Jonathan Craig Allen, MD, chaired a member services forum “Fentanyl Facts and Fears: What Every Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Needs to Know.”

The panel discussed the risks fentanyl poses and the forms it may take in our communities with presentations that included cases of fentanyl poisoning, information on potency and physiologic effects of fentanyl, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of opioid overdose.

Paul Weigle, MD, chaired the institute “How Social Media Impacts Mental Health, and What Clinicians Should Do About It?” participated in the Workshop “Understanding Video Games: A Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist’s Call of Duty,” the symposium “TikTok Teens: New Research Reveals How Social Media Affects Mental Health,” and the Institute “Online Trends and Mental Health Implications.”
