When kidney cancer struck Jeffrey Ossen, he didn’t want his life of charitable work to end. He created the Jeffrey Ossen Family Foundation to help people in need across Windham County. Today, you can see his generous spirit reaching out to children at risk.
Natchaug Hospital’s child and adolescent programs help kids with emotional or psychiatric problems too serious for a regular school setting. Sometimes a student becomes so aggressive, it takes something exceptional to restore calm. The Ossen Foundation provided it: a sensory machine that lets children enjoy soothing music, aromatherapy and captivating colored bubbles.
The results have been amazing: The machine worked instantly on a child who couldn’t be calmed any other way. Now other children on the unit want to take the lead, setting up the machine and showing it off to their friends. It helps them take charge of their own behavior and return to class safely. Even when kids leave the hospital, their parents can use a smaller version of the machine at home.
Through a family’s most difficult times, Jeffrey Ossen’s generosity through Hartford HealthCare Giving connects them to help and hope.
